NZ Mosaic Art
As reported in my last newsletter preparations are well underway for the a national exhibition to be held at the Estuary Arts Centre, Orewa, Opening Night 30th September, workshops and symposium on Saturday 1st October, with the exhibition running until the 23rd October. Currently the organisation is holding an exhibition of mosaic shoes as a way to raise the profile of mosaics and as a fundraising event. This is also being held at the Estuary Arts Centre in Orewa, so if you can get along and check out the wonderful work many mosaic artists have donated to New Zealand Mosaic Art.
Registration packs to enter the exhibition in October are now ready and can be requested from Pat Parkinson at: [email protected].
Don't forget to visit our Facebook Page for more information or for a general discussion on all things mosaic:

This fabulous mosaic book by Bonnie Fitzgerald is one of the best I have seen for some time. She offers the novice excellent information and for the more advanced practitioner there are fabulous ideas to try out. This is what Search Press have to say:
"This is a complete resource of mosaic techniques and design ideas for creating mosaics in the home. With clear step-by-step sequences, mosaic artist Bonnie Fitzgerald shows how to draw up an idea, cut and arrange tiles, and finish designs successfully. You'll also find expert tips from some of the world's leading mosaic artists dropped in throughout the book.
Discover how to find inspiration, and to coordinate colour and pattern in your designs, using a wide range of materialsfrom vitreous glass tiles to pebbles and shells, recycled pottery, ceramic tiles, decorative stones, millefiori and diamanté.
All tools, materials, and equipment are clearly explained, and you'll find helpful hints on setting up a comfortable workspace, as well as essential information on mounting your finished mosaics.
- a complete resource for mosaic techniques
- contributions from 40 international artists
- clear, step-by-step instructions for each mosaic piece".
Auckland library do have a copy and it can be purchased online via Searchpress.com. I highly recommend it.

Mosaic Classes
During the month of February I held two very successful mosaic classes for beginners - thank you to everyone who made these days special.
Tapestry Mirror Class
I am currently looking at organising a two day Tapestry Mirror Class - in this class you will learn how to cut glass, use a variety of materials and create a uniquely fabulous mirror. I envisage the class will be over two Saturdays in either Birkenhead or Pt Chevalier. If you would be interested in joining this class please send me an email so I can keep you informed.
Kids Holiday Mosaic Class
Again I am in the process of organising some children's mosaic classes for the school holidays (not Easter). One will be at my place on the Awhitu Peninsula (30 minutes from Waiuku) and the other will be in either Birkenhead or Pt Chevalier. The class is open to children aged 7 upwards and parents are welcome to join us. Each class is 4 hours and is $35 including materials. So if you are interested in one of these classes again please email me for more information.
