Mosaic Garden Progress
The trees have been felled and we are now faced with the mammoth job of cutting all the firewood.
I am also madly mosaicing objects for the garden. So far:
Here are the photos - before and after the tree felling and one of me ably working the wood splitter.

I am also madly mosaicing objects for the garden. So far:
- three chairs,
- an old bathroom cabinet
- and an old concrete tub a friend gave me many years ago

Mosaic Classes
Thank you to all the people who joined me at the Pt Chevalier and Birkenhead classes. We had such a wonderful time and everyone made great mosaic pieces.
The next two classes are:
Saturday 28th March - Pt Chevalier - 9am - 4.30pm
Saturday 25th April - Orewa - 9am - 4.30pm
These are beginner's classes but if you have been to a class before and want the support to create your next piece you are most welcome to come along. There is a discount for anyone who has attended before.
Click here to sign up for one of these classes.
Possible Weekly Class
I have been asked to hold an ongoing weekly class - say on a Tuesday morning - for perhaps 6 weeks. We would meet for three hours once a week and work on whatever project you have ongoing. As always, I would bring a range of tiles and bases. Seems like a great way to spend a few hours each week; working on a mosaic and chatting with like minded people.
Please let me know if you would interested in this class and if I have enough people interested I will organise it.

Wonderful Easter Project
With the School Holidays and Easter fast approaching you may be interested in creating your own unique mosaic Easter eggs with the kids.
Many eastern European ethnic groups decorate eggs for Easter, including Ukraine, Belarusia, Bulgaria, Croatia and many more. As in many ancient cultures, these groups worshipped a sun god. The sun was important - it warmed the earth and thus was a source of all life. According to tradition birds were the sun god's chosen creations for they were the only ones who could get near him. Humans could not catch the birds, but they did manage to obtain the eggs the birds laid. Thus, the eggs were magical objects, a source of life. The egg also represented the rebirth of the earth.
With the advent of Christianity, the symbolism of the egg was changed to represent, not nature's rebirth, but the rebirth of man and Christians embraced the egg symbol.
What you need:
polystyrene egg shape
bits and pieces of ceramic tile, china, beads, buttons, jewellery.
Glue
Grout.
Draw a pattern onto your egg and decorate with your bits and pieces, being sure to use sufficient glue to hold the pieces down.
