 Tea Light

Tea lights make a beautiful adornment for your table or give them to your friends as gifts.

This is a great project to start with because you don’t need any tools and there is no cutting required.

In the first one I used broken china and instead of grouting I used glitter glue to allow the light to shine through.

In the second I used mini metallic glass tiles and shimmer irregular cut tiles.
Project One

Materials
Glass tea light
Broken china in three colours: red, yellow, green
Crystal clear Fix it Fast - silicone adhesive
Ice block sticks for the glue
Silver glitter glue
Sandpaper

purchase as a kit

1.  Sand the tea light to create better adhesion.

2.  If your china is in large pieces wrap it in an old towel, then place in a plastic bag.  Use a hammer to break the china into small pieces (they need to be quite small because the glass is small)

3.  Organise your pieces into colour groups for easier placement once you get started.

4.  Squeeze out a small amount of silicone into a plastic dish (if you squeeze out too much it will dry out before you can use it).

5.  Using an ice block stick smear some silicone adhesive to the glass and begin sticking the tiles into it. Leave a small gap between the tiles for the grout.

Be sure to use enough glue so that you can push the tiles in but not so much that it oozes up between the tiles.

Helpful Hint:  I used the edge of the plate for the bottom edge of the glass.

6.  Keep smearing glue and sticking on your tiles until the whole glass is covered.

7.  Leave the glass to dry completely- 5 hours is best.

8.  Then squeeze glitter glue into the gaps - not to worry if it goes onto the tiles as this adds a lovely Christmas touch.

4.  Using the ice block stick spread silicone onto the glass then press the tiles into it.  Leave a small gap between each tile for the grout.

Be sure to use enough glue so the tile can pressed into it but not so much that the glue oozes up between the tiles.

5.  Keep gluing and sticking the tiles until the entire glass is covered with tiles.

Leave the glass to dry for at least 5 hours.

6.  Prepare the grout as per manufacturers instructions or see my instructions.

Spread the grout over the tea light using a sponge being sure to get it into all the gaps.  Wipe off the excess and leave for 10 minutes.  Once a haze begins to form wipe clean with a clean soft cloth.

After an hour give one final buff with a soft clean cloth.
